TOTALLY WIRED: What Teens and Tweens are Really Doing Online
Over at my other blogging gig, at Family.com, I had a chance to talk to Anastasia Goodstein last week. She is the author of the book TOTALLY WIRED: What Teens and Tweens are Really Doing Online.
It was not so much an "interview" as it was a great conversation about her book and the information she has gathered on teens and tweens using technology. I completely hogged her time last Tuesday and I'm sure she very sorry she ever gave me her cell phone. You might think I'm kidding but I have a feeling Anastasia could be changing her cell to an unlisted number very soon. Read on.
Since my girls are right in the middle of all the "cellphone-IM-MySpace-online" issues Goodstein writes about in her book, I naturally took the opportunity to obsess with her about my family's situation concerning these issues. She was excellent in her role as "therapist" and didn't even charge me $125 for listening to my problems.
What I like about the book and about Anastasia's take on the subject of teens and tweens online is that she doesn't take the usual "It's all bad and if you let your kids go online the pedophiles will molest them" stance.
I don't know about you guys but most of the stuff I read about kids online presents all the horror stories and shows the bad side. As a both a mom AND a geek, I don't think all technology is bad.
