Free Gun with Car Purchase
Ah, yes. Midwestern living at its finest. Big Strong Man and I have been shopping for the fabled 3rd car now that Teen in Line is a full-fledged driver and we need her to cart her younger sister around and do our bidding on a regular basis. Truly, it will be as much for our own convenience as hers. Not that she's isn't chomping at the bit, mind you. She is....
Aside from narrowing down the choices and preparing to part with the cash, it's been surprisingly painless so far. Of course, we don't live in Butler, MO, where car dealers give away a free gun with every purchase. That's right. You read that correctly. A free gun with the purchase of a car. Um hmmm. Perhaps, that would make the process even less painful... Of course, buyers can opt for a gas card worth $250 instead of the gun coupon, but sources say that only a couple of folks have chosen that option so far.
Can you say redneck? Apparently, this dealer's sales have quadrupled since offering this lovely little incentive.
When interviewed, Billy Bob Joe the General Manager touted this promotion as a way for the citizens of his town to protect themselves against the violence that's happening all across America. He added this final bit of wisdom:
"Down here, we all believe in God, guts and guns."
Yep. That pretty much sums it up.
This story wouldn't be complete without this final little nugget:
The town of Butler, MO where this promotion is being held is a booming metropolis of 4,200 people. The police chief reports that there hasn't been an armed robbery in over 25 years. Um, yeah...
Wasn't there a bank in Colorado where they gave new depositors a free rifle? Michael Moore featured this in one of his docufiction films.

Hubby and I saw a spot between here and Philly that seemed to be selling alcohol AND guns. Now, there's a bright idea!

I grew up not far from Butler, MO and there is NOT 4200 people...I can't imagine that there is more than 1000 - if that!
